My SO is an O-3 and seeing how she is treated compared to enlisted was enough to discourage me. I was just in this boat, with a 17C offer, but turned it down - it wasn't worth it to me. The mindset of not asking questions, and blindly following orders doesn't do well in a field that requires your thinking to be mobile and it may take some time to adjust back to civilian life.
Military people talk with jargon that is unintelligible to the average person. Lastly, when you get out a lot of times people have issues displaying the skills that they've learned. The "leadership style" of most people involves yelling as a lot of times it's a 23-24-year-old with no idea or a 35+-year-old who hasn't seen anything else. At any point in time, you can be stopped by random people. They literally make sure that you're awake every morning, that you eat, and if you miss an appointment you better realize that you're getting escorted to it. The military itself can be fun, but you also are treated like a kid. The systems that you use are often antiquated, and the processes for upgrades take years. You're doing the same year of experience over and over again. The experience that you get isn't really worth much. I wasn't 17C, but I can tell you this about military IT.
